RumFest 2010 – Kensington Olympia 2
Whilst we may have a penchant for Gin over here we do indulge in other spirits from time to time. A little bit of Rum in our lives is always welcome. Thanks to RumFest, the brainchild of Ian Burrell, we can all learn a little bit more about Rum as Rumfest is the world’s largest rum festival. It is part of London Cocktail Week (more to come on this!), and is taking place next month (16/17th October).
It started back in 2007, and as of last year over 5,000 visitors came to sample some of the Rums on show. This year there are expected to be over 400 rums from around the globe for visitors to sample. Including brands like Appleton Estate from Jamaica, Bacardi from Puerto Rico, Havana Club from Cuba, Mount Gay Rum from Barbados, Ron Zacapa from Guatemala and Santa Teresa from Venezuela.
As well as being able to taste the rums, there will also be seminars, master classes, salsa and samba dancing, cocktail sampling, and a Tiki Cocktail Face Off.
Also this year is the introduction of the Golden Rum Barrel Awards, these will be decided by a selection of ‘rum experts’ (what a great job!). There will also be awards for the UK Rum Ambassador of the year, Global Rum Ambassador of the year and another new award for the Champion of Champions Rum Cocktail competition where the finest bartenders will be pitted against each other in a consumer tasting competiton.
All in all it sounds like it will be a fun weekend, and hopefully we will be attending.
