The Evolution of Gin, at The Kenilworth

Kenilworth_Logo_Dot

A little tweet caught my attention earlier this month, it was from Rob Wood (InRobWeTrust) and mentioned that I might be interested in a night about ‘The Evolution of Gin’. Lots of events and other bits get mentioned to me, though this was an event I thought to be good to attend. That’s partly down [...]

YAG Tasting #1 – Blind Gin Tasting Results

#1 Gin Selection

The first YetAnotherGin tasting took place over the weekend. An event that had been talked about for a while, but came together at rather short notice! A total of 20 people came to learn a bit about gin, and taste ten different gins. We covered the history of gin, and a brief discussion of the [...]

Edinburgh Gin

Edinburgh Gin

Buy Edinburgh Gin :Edinburgh Gin is produced by The Spencerfield Spirit Company, a company more familiar with the production of artisan Whisky than Gin.

Though in the summer of 2010, they released this new Gin and it’s not a leap into the unknown. After all Edinburgh has a long history of gin production, back in 1777 there were 8 licensed distilleries and its estimated that there may have been as many as 400 illegal stills in Edinburgh and the Port of Leith.

As gin rose to become the fashionable spirit the Edinburgh distillers, like their London counterparts, produced gin from locally sourced ingredients.

Review: Frank’s Campari Bar, 10th Floor, Peckham Multi-Story Carpark, London

Franks Campari Bar Area

A pop-up art project café on the top of the Peckham Multiplex – ten floors up in a disused car park – serving up lashings of bitter orange Campari cocktails on wooden benches underneath a tarpaulin looking out across the whole of London. As concepts go, it’s difficult to top, even in this saturated city.

Review: Purl, Marylebone, London

Purl - Negroni

We paid a visit to Purl, London the other weeks. Take a look at the review of Purl.
The venue itself feels cosy, when you walk in you might just assume it’s a tiny bar, with just two seats at the bar and a few comfy chairs. Yet go explore and you’ll find hidden away snugs, a piano, old curiosites and posters and bookshelf wallpaper.

Review: Hotel du Vin, Church St, Birmingham

Hotel du Vin Birmingham

Hotel du Vin, Church St, Birmingham Hotel bars are always a classic destination for people seeking cocktails, for some reason they always [usually] serve to a high standard. Now, a hotel known for wine, will it be any good for cocktails? On entering the hotel, you are greeted by an ornate hallway and you need [...]

Review: BANK, Brindley Place, Birmingham

Bank Restaurant Birmingham Front

Bank is one of the finer restaurants that exist within Brindley Place (Birmingham), it is only a stone throw away from your All Bar One, Cafe Rouge and such. Yet it delivers a totally different experience, both in the food the serve (some delightful prix fixe menus) and the range of cocktails their bar ofers.

This is a great place for a pre, and post dinner cocktail. The atmosphere is very relaxed, though from my experience they don’t offer table service (well, unless you are dining)! Also with Brindley Place being a sun trap, you can wile away the afternoon here.

Hidden Gems: Serpentine Gin Bar, Hyde Park

Gin Bar - Serpentine - Hyde Park

Drinking. In a park. No brown bags needed! If we were based in London, we’d be over to Hyde Park searching out for this Gin Bar. This is a classic van, setup to serve Gin based drinks. [mainly mixers, rather than cocktails, but I'm happy with that!]. Thanks to the lovely girls over at Domestic [...]

Review: The Gin Parlour, The Jekyll & Hyde, Birmingham

Jeykll&Hyde

Much like the story goes this might end up as a piece in two parts, the first being the fact that this is rather a great bar. Not so much a hidden away gem, as a place that you’d be unlikely to stumble upon, unless you worked in the area. That means that you are [...]

Review: The Bar at The Dorchester, Mayfair, London

Negroni At The Dorchester

I’m not what you would call new money, nor old money, but I couldn’t help think as I walked past The Dorchester that I should pop in and sample a drink at their bar. I’ve heard a lot of nice things about the place, and thought why not.

Perhaps, in retrospect I should have thought a bit harder; after all this is: A) Mayfair, B) Posh Hotel and C) Hotel Prices.
